SPOTLIGHT ON: YOU'RE A GOOD MAN, CHARLIE BROWN

Good grief! The Peanuts gang returns to our stage this December in our holiday offering, You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown. This musical gem opened off-Broadway in the East Village in 1967 where it enjoyed a sold out five-year run. It was revived on Broadway in 1999, earning a Tony for Kristen Chenoweth. The Heights Players previous production was staged in 1988, directed by David Jay Bernstein.

Our current production will celebrate the 60th anniversary of Peanuts, the world famous comic strip, which was created, written and drawn every day for 50 years by Charles M. Schulz. Several of his most popular strips are strung together to create an average day in the life of Charlie Brown and his friends, accompanied by a tuneful score written by Clark Gesner. Mr. Gesner was a very good friend and patron of The Heights Players, and we are proud to present his work again.

For this production, our talented carpenters and technicians will be building a fourth section of seats, transforming our stage back to theatre-in-the-round. This exciting experiment will ideally present this intimate, six-person musical in the most effective way possible. Because of the small size of this cast, we have double-cast our show to provide more actors with more opportunities to perform. But it doesn't matter if you come to see the Peppermint Patty Cast or the Woodstock Cast, you will see great talent either way.

Both casts are made up of newcomers and Heights veterans. Cast names and performance breakdowns are as follows:

Woodstock Cast: Charlie Brown - Peter Waugh; Linus - Tony Montenieri; Lucy - Heather DiBianco; Schroeder - Craig Trachtenberg; Sally - Bridgette Alayne; Snoopy - Eason Smith. Performance dates with the Woodstock Cast are: Friday, December 4 and Saturdays, December 12 and 19 at 8:00 p.m.; and Sunday, December 6th at 2:00 p.m.

Peppermint Patty Cast: Charlie Brown - Tom Patterson; Linus - Chad Africa; Lucy - Laura Mae Baker; Schroeder - Derrick Bryant Marshall; Sally - Alli Loeffert; Snoopy - Eason Smith. Performance dates with the Peppermint Patty Cast are: Fridays, December 11 and 18, and Saturday, December 5 at 8:00 p.m.; and Sundays, December 13 and 20 at 2:00 p.m.

Director Steve Velardi has wanted to work on this show since he saw the original Heights production in 1988 (his sister was in it). He is working with Julianne Merril (Showboat) as musical director, Danielle Giovinazzi (Strivelli Players) as choreographer/assistant director, and Christopher Short (Oberon in Shakespeare in Hollywood) as stage manager. Gina Healy (Intimate Apparel) and Bill Wood (Everything) are bringing the colors of Peanuts to life as costume and set designer, respectively. And heading up our production team is Robert J. Weinstein, producer. Mr. Weinstein will also design the lighting.

Don't miss your opportunity to spend some quality time this December with the Peanuts gang. This is truly a show for children of all ages. Reservations may be made by calling 718-237-2752 or online by clicking here
